Left Sidelight is complete

This is the longest panel I have made to date. It is just under seven feet hight and 11 inches wide. I had to build a specific jig for this panel, which actually doubled as a transportation medium. It worked out vey well. I have two of these sidelights to build. Here's a work in progress - assembling the piece.

Here's the piece assembled ready to accept solder. There are two reinforcing channels in the middle of the panel to support the length and to help prevent it from bowing out. I assembled it face side up so the reinforcing channels are slightly proud. Had I started on the back you would not be able to see this at all. Lesson learned. However, you do have to look really hard to see it.

Here's the final final product installed. It was an extremely sunny day so the picture didn't come out as nice as I hoped. I've one more sidelight to build and install so I will have plenty of opportunity to take additional pictures.

The whole design is great. The sidelights , which aren't columns but 'hold' the upper panel in place, as a column would, look great. Since I've been in europe all winter I've seen lots of columns. The design, with it's decreasing spacing as the column goes up, is of course influenced by Frank Lloyd, but I can also see the kind of balance which the greeks used via entasis.

Hi, Tim. Just looked at the new side panel, and it looks just stunning. The collection of panels make a very dramatic entry to the house. Great choice of colours in the glass.
